Bailout for Lincoln New Hampshire?

January 21, 2009

moneyHey Washington D.C. and anyone who has $$ to spend in NH:

Lincoln, NH needs visitors NOW or we’ll need a portion of the 350 Billion dollars for a bailout. Weekday visitors, sometimes called tourists are few and far between this winter. There have been a few days of great numbers for the local economy, but a handful of days does not a season make. Visitor numbers have been dwindling since last February when the gas prices went into the stratosphere and now that gas prices are down the lackluster economy has gripped the neck of our little town. The skiing is incredible, but let’s face it… no one seems to care or they think they can’t afford it or they have something better to do this winter. At this rate there won’t be any businesses left in Lincoln or Woodstock. Book a room, eat at one of the 37 (+ or -) restaurants and take advantage of the best snow conditions in years! There’s snowshoeing, snowmobiling, alpine and cross country skiing, hiking, hot tub sex and more! Let’s go folks — before the lack of interest completely destroys our local economy… or we could apply for that bailout that seems to be so popular with larger, less needy companies. This is small business screaming for help. The backbone of our economy is in distress. HELP!

Update

The Federal government apparently heard us — the initial House version of the economic stimulus bill would give the Small Business Administration $430 million to revive its ailing loan programs. This article in the Journal of New England Technology has the details. Small Businesses would be able to apply directly to the SBA, rather than through local lenders, most of which are no longer making SBA loans.
